JONESBORO (5/21/08) - The Kansas City Chiefs announced Tuesday they have agreed to terms on a two-year contract with undrafted free agent and former Arkansas State standout safety Khayyam Burns.

Burns completed his outstanding career at ASU last season as the Sun Belt Conference’s second all-time leading tackler with 331 stops to his credit.  The three-time All-Sun Belt Conference selection also recorded five career interceptions for 116 yards.

The Fort Smith, Ark. native finished the 2008 campaign with a career-best 97 tackles, the second most on the team, and was a First Team All-Sun Belt Conference selection.  He was also a Phil Steele’s First Team All-Sun Belt Conference selection in 2008.

Burns started every game of his career and posted a career-high four interceptions as a junior.  Burns recorded a career-high 13 tackles against North Texas during the 2007 campaign.

Burns joins over 90 other all-time Arkansas State players that have signed pro contracts with an NFL franchise.  He is third ASU player to sign a contract with an NFL franchise this year, joining safety Tyrell Johnson and cornerback Darren Toney.  Johnson was second-round selection by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2008 draft and Toney signed a free agent contract with the Carolina Panthers.
