JONESBORO, ARK. — “Red,” Arkansas State University’s spirit character, was recently awarded a sixth-place finish in the 2005 University Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship in Orlando, Fla. last week.

“Red” competed in the mascot division of the competition which was held at Walt Disney World Jan. 14-17.

“This is a tremendous tribute to ‘Red’ and great recognition for Arkansas State University,” said ASU Director of Athletics Dr. Dean Lee. “The spirit character was conceived as another way to bring energy to athletic events and to enhance our atmosphere. Since his introduction, he has brought great joy to our fans both young and old.”

“Red” was introduced to the public in July 2003 and was designed by ASU Director of Athletic Marketing Andrea Scott.
